What are they?
Last year at Gateway Primary School we introduced School Houses.  The children of years 1 to 6 have been split into four teams.

How do children earn points?
Children win house points for a variety of things, for example: good behaviour, helping others, excellent work, doing well on Sports Day and trying hard.  Each Friday the points are calculated and in assembly the children find out how many points each House has won that week and how many each House has in total (see below for the current totals).  At the end of the year a shield is presented to the House with the most points.

OUR NEW ADOPTED FRIEND!

We have been encouraging all children to walk to school with our Walk on Wednesdays program.  But in October, we held a competition to see which house had the most children walking to school.  After all the results were tallied, the house with the most walkers was the Tigers.  We decided to do something really worthwhile as a prize for the Tigers and adopt a beautiful Bengal tiger called Malu Pothi.  Our tiger is a magnificent mother of three who lives in a nature reserve in Nepal.  She is one of only 5000 Bengal tigers left in the world today, so we feel really special being able to help her and the scientists and workers caring for her and other tigers like her.

PAST SPECIAL EVENTS

Gateway School Spelling Bee

Special children from Years One to Six were chosen to take part in the first Gateway Primary School Spelling Bee.  The Spelling Bee was organised to improve the spelling of children involved, as a chance to earn points for their house and to encourage team spirit within houses.

Two children from each year group competed in the Spelling Bee and all earned points for their houses.

The results were as follows

Years 3&4 - Leopards were the winners

Years 5&6 - Lions were the winners

Years 1&2 - Tigers were the winners

Congratulations to all the children who participated - you have done a marvellous job for your house!

Houses Comic Relief Afternoon

Friday 16th March 2007

On Comic Relief Day the children spent the afternoon in their Houses with children from different Year groups carrying out a number of different activities.  The children had a great afternoon working as a team to solve challenges, create chants and produce posters for their Houses.

“It was so fun working with the little children and helping them,” a Year 6 Pupil
