Admissions Information
Gateway is a popular, oversubscribed school. As a community school
we adhere to Westminster’s published admissions criteria for all
community schools which we list below.
Nursery
Places
There may not be enough places in the nursery school or nursery class
to take all the children who would like to attend. For Community
schools and maintained nursery schools, where there are more
applications than places, the school will allocate places in the
following order:
(i)
children with an exceptional medical or social need for a place at the
particular school concerned
(ii) children with a brother or sister already attending the nursery
school or class, or the main school of which the nursery class is
part. (In the case of the nursery classes at Robinsfield, George Eliot
and Hallfield Infant Schools this priority would also extend to
applicants with a sibling attending Barrow Hill, George Eliot or
Hallfield Junior schools respectively, in line with the linked sibling
priority which already exists between these pairs of schools for
admission to children from reception onwards)
(iii) children for whom the school or nursery class is the nearest
nursery provision in a Community school (with priority within this
group given to those living nearest to the school)
(iv) children who live nearest the school.
Nursery children
transferring to reception class
Please note there is no automatic transfer from the nursery class to
the reception class at a school. The infant or primary school where a
child attends a nursery class will not necessarily be able to offer a
place in reception. There is a separate application procedure for
reception class places at schools. All schools have admissions
criteria, which they use to allocate places when they are
oversubscribed.
Reception Places
Admissions for reception are co-ordinated by the Westminster
Admissions Team. A Westminster Common Application Form is usually
available about a year before the child is due to start reception.
Copies of this will be available in school should you need one. The
criteria for allocating places is a s follows:
If
there are more applicants than places, places will be first allocated
to children with statements of special educational needs which name
the school with the agreement of Westminster LA, then in the following
order of priority:
1)
Children who are in public care
2)
Children with exceptional medical, social, or other need that can only
be met by providing a place at the particular school concerned rather
than any other school (to be decided in consultation with the Director
for Schools in each case)
3)
Children with a sibling at the school at the time of admission. A
sibling is defined as a brother or sister, half brother or sister, or
step brother or sister whose main residence is at the same address.
Please note sibling priority only applies to children with sibling(s)
at the school in Years R-6 at the time of admission but not nursery.
4)
Children for whom it is the nearest Community primary school
5)
Children for whom it is not the nearest Community primary school.
Within categories 4) and 5) above, priority will be given to those
children who live nearest to the school, measured by the shortest
walking route.
Applications made under criteria 1) and 2) will only be considered if
supporting evidence from an appropriate professional (e.g. doctor or
social worker) is attached to the LA’s application form and then only
by agreement with the Director of Schools.
Places in Years other than reception are allocated as above but a
separate application form is available in school.
Enrolment
forms are not available on-line. To complete, you will need to
visit the Office at Gateway Primary School.
