Numeracy

The way we teach maths at Gateway is set out in the Gateway Primary School Maths Policy.

Mathematics is now planned and taught from the New Primary Framework.  Within the framework there are 7 core strands of mathematical learning:

·                 Using and applying mathematics

·                 Counting and understanding number

·                 Knowing and using number facts

·                 Calculating

·                 Understanding shape

·                 Measuring

·                 Handling data

Your child will cover these strands within every year group and more than once in a year.  If you click on a strand you can find an explanation and an activity for you child to complete.  The explanations begin with Foundation Stage and Key Stage One objectives (younger children) and move onto Key Stage 2 definitions (junior aged children).

Ask your child what they are learning about in Maths this week then click on the related strand and activity.

Using and Applying Mathematics

Solving mathematical problems and identifying numbers and relationships.

Being able to describe and explain methods, choices and solutions to puzzles and problems orally and in writing using pictures and diagrams.
