Questions to Ask Things to do at Home

D&T at Home

There are many different things you can try at home, and you don't need a lot of 'stuff' to do it!

The best place to start is to look at something in your house and ask yourself the questions to start off your 'designerly' thinking. When you have done this, you can start to think about the ways you can improve it.

Here are some places to start:

  • A favourite toy
  • A pencil case or wash bag
  • A cereal box or other food packet
  • A football strip

When you have decided what you want to design, take a good look at it and then ask the 'designerly' thinking questions.

When you have done this think about what improvements you want to make.

Using the plan template draw up a sketch of your new design, think about the materials you want to use and the colours you want it to be.

You might then like to make a small model of your design, using fabric or cardboard.

When you have finished bring your design into school and it might even get a place on our website!
